The Society’s administrative headquarters and three observatories are located on one acre atop South Mountain in Lower Salisbury Township near Allentown, PA. View on Google Maps
The main building houses a meeting room, the Grady Planetarium, the Robson Library/Computer Wing, a workshop, and an optical room. The planetarium seats approximately forty people beneath a 21-foot dome that uniquely descends to eye level to simulate a realistic horizon.
The library contains over 1,000 volumes on astronomy and physical science topics, along with numerous video and audio resources. LVAAS members enjoy full access to these materials as part of their membership, and may also rent portable telescopes and binoculars for a small fee.
Three observatories house permanently mounted telescopes, including a 6" refractor, a 12" Newtonian, and a 12" Cassegrain. Members may use these telescopes free of charge on a first-come basis (see the Membership page for details).
South Mountain is also the site of the LVAAS monthly public star party, supporting the Society’s community education and outreach efforts (see the Star Party page for details).
