Directions to Pulpit Rock

From Allentown-Bethlehem From Western Lehigh County
From East of Allentown-Bethlehem From West of Hamburg, PA
From South of Allentown-Bethlehem

From Allentown-Bethlehem

1. Get onto either U.S. 22 or I-78 and head west.

2. About 25 miles west of Allentown, get off at the Route 143 exit (Lenhartsville).

3. At the end of the exit ramp, turn right onto 143 south.

4. Head south about 2000 feet, then turn right at the T onto old Route 22.

5. Head west 3.1 miles to Reservoir Road.  Reservoir Road crosses old Route 22 at the bottom of a hill.  There is a stone farm house on the near and right side of the junction.  (Look for the street sign if necessary.) If you pass a stone church and cemetery on the left, you've gone a bit too far.

6. Turn right onto Reservoir Road and head north to the very end of the road.

7. You will see a metal gate at the far end of a small parking area.  You will need a gate key to go beyond this point, or you will have to arrive at 'Gate Time' for any of our Pulpit Rock events.

8. Beyond the gate, follow the gravel road 2000 feet until it bends to the right.

9. Bearing to the right, you will soon see a very small bridge over a brook.  Cross it and bear to the left afterwards.

10. About 700 feet later, the road bends to the right and then again to the left. Please drive to the right side of the road to even out the wear on the gravel.

11. As the road gets steeper, there is a section paved with blacktop, with a curve to the right in the middle of it. Towards the top it gets less steep and turns back to gravel.

12. Continue all the way to the summit, where you'll see the Astronomical Park.
