Good demonstration of Keplars First Law (The Law of Elipses). The Moon orbits Earth in an Eliptical orbit, and so sometimes is closer (hence bigger) and sometimes further (hence smaller) from us. Pictures taken on suitable Full Moon dates at Apogee (furthest) and Perigee (Closest) on July 7th, 2009 and December 12th, 2008, respectively. I personally was very doubtful that a significant differance would be noticed, but I was very wrong. The diameter has shrunk by 12% and the area by 24% going from Perigee to Apogee.

Taken using a Orion Starshoot CCD camera on an Orion ST80 (operating at F25, I will explain that to anyone who asks). The camera/scope set-up was designed to be identical for both images to faithfully display the size difference.
