Quadrantids Meteor Shower

This is an above-average meteor shower, capable of producing up to 40 meteors per hour at peak.

The shower runs January 1–5, peaking overnight on January 3–4. This year it lands squarely on a supermoon (doh!), washing out all but the brightest shooting stars.

Best viewing is after midnight from a dark location. Meteors radiate from the constellation Boötes, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

The Quadrantids are a memorial to an extinct comet—likely the object known as 2003 EH1.
