M51 The Whirlpool Galaxy in the Canes Venatici , estimated to be 23 million light-years distant. The spiral structure is believed to be the result of the close interaction between it and its companion galaxy NGC5195
The red knots visible in the spiral arms are star birth or HII regions.

Taken the nights of June 10 and 11, 2016 from Highland Lakes, New Jersey

Celestron CGE mount, guided off-axis, Starlight Xpress lodestar with PHD Guiding
QSI 583wsg with Baader filters

My first deep sky image still a work in progress. Taken November 10, 2015 at Pulpit Rock. Orion 80mm CFT, Canon T1i, captured with Backyard EOS, stacked in Deep Sky Stacker, processed in Photoshop CS3. Unguided - 21 subs @ 25 seconds plus darks. I am disappointed in the lack of detail but it still needs further gradient and noise processing. Not sure about color or if bringing out more detail is possible, I think the data is there.
