We've received a donation of a used 12-inch Mead LX-200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope from a private individual. The scope is 5-to-8 years old and was checked out by our two observatories committee chairs on Saturday 7/23 during the daytime at Pulpit Rock, and it seems to be in good condition. It's missing the AC power supply, but this can be replaced. The scope came without a tripod, but with a length of heavy 8-inch pipe with mounting flanges on each end. There's also a top plate on which the telescope is mounted altitude-azimuth to the pipe. The donor used these materials as a permanent pier mouting within his private observatory.

Just remember that the LX200 "Classic" (i.e. the one before the GPS), runs on 18V DC, not the typical 12V DC.

Our new 12” Mead LX-200 Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope needs a home. The consensus agreement is that this telescope will be placed at South Mountain but we need to decide where it's permanent home will be. Some of the suggestions that I've heard include;

1.Install as a replacement for the 12” Cassegrain in the Brooks Observatory.
2.Expand the Warden Observatory from a single to double capacity allowing for its placement in the new section.
3.Build a new observatory near the Warden (toward the driveway into the parking lot).

The board will be discussing this at the next meeting so please let us know what you think!
