2017 Renewal Information

Dues are payable until the 1st of March of every year. After that date, any member who has not yet paid their dues must pay a $10 reapplication fee, as the delinquency will result in a dropped membership as of March 1st.

Once an individual's membership is dropped from the Society rolls, they will be required to reapply via the New Member application process.

Quick Guide to Joining LVAAS

Come to LVAAS:
Come to one of our General Meetings, generally on the second Sunday of each month (but see our calendar for details) with your completed application and appropriate dues. (see below) Applications are also available at any Meeting. You will be called up front at the end of the meeting and the Membership Director will take down your name and introduce you to the Society.

Attend two meetings:
Attend two total General Meetings within in a three month period. These are called your "first & second readings". At your second reading your name will be called, and you will become a Full Member with Full Member benefits. (dues must be paid in full)

Dues:
$45 per year for an individual membership, plus a $10 one-time application fee for new or renewed memberships. After that, dues will be $45 yearly. Family and other membership rates such as Life and Junior Memberships are listed to the right of the page. Dues help support club activities and are due at the end of the year for Regular Members and are payable at your 1st reading for all New Members.

The Lehigh Valley Amateur Astronomical Society, Inc. is a public oriented, nonprofit educational organization dedicated to serving the interests of the community in Astronomy and related fields. Society membership is open to the public. Anyone having a sincere interest in astronomy is encouraged to join. The general meetings are usually on the second Sunday of each month, but please see our calendar for details. Observing sessions for members are held regularly at both our South Mountain and Pulpit Rock sites. Both sites feature medium to large aperture telescopes in permanent observatories. In addition to the observatories, the society operates a planetarium, workshop and a library. There are several monthly groups that members are encouraged to attend, including the Lunatics and Stargazers Night, Astroimaging and others.

From time to time, astronomy classes are offered to the membership and the public, such as an observers class, or an astroimaging class. On request, we offer public planetarium programs for groups. Public star parties are held year round, and are held rain or shine.

The LVAAS is totally self-supporting. Relying on donations and dues for its income, it flourishes due to the talents and skills of volunteers from the general membership. Most of the buildings and equipment operated by the society have been built by the members.

Upon receipt of your completed application, dues and admittance fee, you will become an Associate Member. Associate Members have limited benefits but are still considered members. To become a Full Member (needed to be able to check out library materials, operate or rent club telescopes, vote, etc.), you must be at least 18 years old (with certain exceptions), and attend two of three consecutive business meetings AFTER the paying of your dues and fees. Currently, the dues are $45.00 per year for Regular or Associate Members, double that for a Sustaining Membership. After 10 consecutive years as a Sustaining Member, you become a Life Member. Junior Membership (Under age of 18) is $15.00 per year. A Family Membership is $65 and includes all adults and minor children living in the same household. Life membership is a single payment of $675.00, and gives you the option to have your name put on our Life Members plaque. There is an Admittance Fee of $10.00 per Membership, or per Family Membership. Family Membership requires an application for each individual including minors. Members joining during November and December are credited for dues for the following year.
