IC1396 is an open cluster located in Cepheus with associated nebulosity, several dark nebula among them B161 in the upper right, 1396A the “Elephant's Trunk” near the center of the image and vdb142 near the end of the trunk. North is up.

Taken @ Cherry Springs State Park, PA

LRGB, William Optics FLT-110, Astro-Tech Field Flattener, QSI583wsg, Celestron CGE mount, Watec 120N+ used as guide camera off-axis. Guided with PHD Guiding, acquired in AstroArt, preprocessed in Deep Sky Stacker and processed in Photoshop.

Luminance: taken 09-13-09, 12 X 5 minutes unbinned
RGB: taken taken 09-14-09, 5 frames each @ 4 minutes binned 2 X 2
Total exposure: 2 hours
