I was just wondering who may be going to the ASH event at Cherry Springs later this month. This will be my first time there. I have heard from a few members who said they will be there. I will be going up Thursday 6/22. Anyone going that early?

Regards,

John Kmetz

John,

I'll be going up early, Thursday, arriving between 1 and 2 would be likely. Possibly even day earlier if weather forecast is good.

Great! It sounds like we have quite a few going up. I will probably get there late afternoon Thursday. Let's hope for good weather and clear seeing. I will check around for everyone when I get there. I am really looking forward to the dark skies.

Thanks

John

John,

This being your first star party I just wanted to pass along some advice -- Camp next to Ron Kunkel and you'll eat in style all weekend. You have to try the Cajun Burger from Mae's Munchables too. Nothing better than a cajun burger around 2:00 AM

Thanks for the tips Bill. I have already seen what Camp Kunkel has to offer. And nothing like a Cajun burger for energy in those early morning hours when the viewing is best. Smile Just hope it doesn't turn into Blazin' Saddles.

So I take it that a few brave souls still decided to go to Cherry Springs. I watched the weather closely for four days and saw overcast skies, hail, lighting, flash floods, fog, heavy rain and wind. I am eager to hear how it was through all this stuff.

John,

You should have come up. We had a good time despite the weather. We did get some observing in Wednesday night until around midnight and Saturday night into Sunday morning until it was too light for good observing. Vince provided some spectacular views in his 20" dob that night.
Ron brought a LCD projector, Matt and Marcella brought the DVD player with movies so we had movie night under canopies Friday night.
Also did some hiking and sightseeing so all in all not a bad time even though there was some rain. I didn't get home until after 5:00 Sunday evening. Good thing I had scheduled Monday off to recover.
